all she wrote

obviously, this blog = neglected. this was never really my thing.

ravelry took over. so did my "keep in touch with coworkers and friends and family while going through a crazy educational experience" blog. if it really becomes a blog. we'll see. I'll try. so bye-bye little blog. I'll keep you around, if only for the fact that I have a nice list of all the crafty blogs I like to read here in the sidebar. hooray.

go look at some kitties!

ahh.

I think I've chilled out a little bit.

so after I accepted the fact that my leisure time is disappearing, I picked up the needles again. I'm working on these socks during my microbiology class

and lordy do they please me. I adore blue moon fiber arts socks that rock mediumweight. and my US 2's (of the 2.75 mm variety). they're thick enough that they're sturdy in bamboo, and make short work of such a consistent and pleasantly dense yarn.

I've decided that I'm not going to start any new projects until I finish the ones on my needles currently (the lowdown for ravelry users). and I want them all done by the time I start school in the fall. more on that in a moment. big goal, but I want to start school with a really fresh feeling, prepared for new things. and I don't think I'm the only one who knows that my knitting projects affect my experience of time.

I've also done some reading, which has led me to the local co-op for my weekly grocery purchase. as a result, I discovered the laptop lunchbox:

brown rice, veggie stir fry with black beans, caprese salad (fresh mozz, tomatoes, basil, olive oil, salt, pepper),
hard-boiled egg, cucumber, celery and carrots with peanut butter

and have swiftly developed an obsession with bento lunches. it was just a matter of time. look how delightful! I'm eating better for it, too. more veggies, if that was even possible for me to begin with. nawm nawm nawm fiber fiber fiber. when what cost $35 at rainbow becomes $60 at the co-op, one is more likely to use that money for the fresh stuff rather than packaged crackers or soups. I'm buying and cooking with fewer value-added products, and more of what came right out of the ground/animal.

but I'm still eating the mini baby ruths in the candy drawer at work. ;)

anyway, I got into my nursing master's program. !!!! this fall begins a new round of school for me, unlike any I've before experienced... can't wait. and yet there's a lot to do between now and then--keep moving in with my man, keep working, finish my prerequisites, visit families, knit for my cousin's baby-on-the-way. if I finish my other projects, of course.

little by little.

post of grrr

see those needles there in that last post? so. guess how many I've managed to use since they arrived.

ZERO.

it's been busy. I have homework. I desire to maintain a social life (that for the most part does involve crafty people). and I demand sleep.

I've chained my ass to a chair in front of a textbook and computer for the last couple weekends. granted, this is nothing like undergrad... but that's part of it. having a full-time job, full-time love, being a part-time student, part-time dweller in two abodes has created a need for projects no more complex or cumbersome than garter-stitch washcloths.

I'm tired, sitting here at the laptop with my textbook propped up next to me, and all I've been able to do for the last 10 minutes is this.

the yarn harlot passed it along. so far I haven't been able to meet her record of 900some feet... but I just got 483.

this is just temporary, of course, and the knitting shall return in force. I have an interview this week for nursing school, which will surely be bookended by trips to the LYS! and a big cup of tea.

**edit: okay, okay... just hit 613 feet. wow.

bye bye, project monogamy.

it was nice knowing you.

gearing up

I just got out my whiteboard. the big one my mom's beau gave me for my birthday in 2006. at the top, in big precise letters, I wrote "ACTION PLAN 2008."

pattern: spindle stitch pattern, toe-up with figure 8 cast-on and short row heel
source: charlene schurch's more sensational knitted socks
yarn: louet gems sport weight, 1 skein of 'sage'
needles: size 2 (2.75 mm)

it's cold as hell here tonight. the high, I heard, is -15.

I think I'm embarking on a period of both transition and celebration. in february, I: transfer within my current company to a more fitting position, celebrate the first birthday of an incredible relationship with an incredible man, continue the process of moving in with him, and, hopefully, interviewing for a nursing program for which I've applied.

it's freezing now, but it can only heat up.

pattern: swirl socks by sulafaye
yarn: BFA socks that rock mediumweight, chapman springs colorway
needles: size 2 (2.75 mm)
current project for bummin' around (and sitting in lecture)

and I have knitting. oh boy. I even managed to knock out a pair of socks (ankle, at least) for my size 13 foot beloved.

pattern: generic toe-up with figure 8 cast-on and short row heel, 2x2 rib cuff
yarn: regia crazy color 6-ply, 2 skeins
needles: size 3 (3.25 mm)

it's an interesting time, to be sure. I'm a lucky girl.

growing

I've learned stuff!! it's working!!

EZ's stretchy sewn bind-off... (we have no light after 5 anymore... so it's time for the season of questionable pictures)_

spit splicing (can you find my join? no? booyah!!)...

how to design something cushy...

to splurge on the occasional delight...

there's always more to tell.

dude.

ravelry? friend me! I'm aybee.

okay, that said: I've made some decisions.

one. I like toe-up socks.

two. I love ravelry.

three. I don't have the damn time to be a good standard knitblogger.

four. therefore I should not have a standard knitblog.

five. but I want a place to chronicle my projects in further detail than on ravelry and at my own damn pace. ie infrequently. so I'm keeping the blog space for that.

six. I'm therefore re-conceiving my little page to quell my perfectionist anxiety.

rock on.
I shall end this note with a picture of my boyfriend's two new kitties. they're playing with a toy I knitted. it's a radish/octopus/thing from Tim Burton movie, and they love it. score!
